We are committed to continuously reviewing and refining our safe working procedures to ensure our employees, customers, suppliers and general public are safe within our working environment and we apply rigorous safety standards to all of our company operations.

All our operators hold CPCS cards and our employees in our depot undergo regular training so they are able to follow safe working practices and have a full understanding of risk assessments. Our employees are also trained in reporting incidents so they can be investigated to prevent recurrence.

All our machines undergo PDI’s and are thoroughly tested to HSE standards for safety and correct operation before delivery.

All our lorries are fitted with side and reverse cameras and turning and reversing warning controls. All our drivers are trained in the operation of each machine in our fleet and have completed NPORS loader securer courses, so our customers can be confident that we follow safe loading and unloading procedures.

Work-related stress, depression and anxiety have overtaken musculoskeletal disorders as the most reported workplace health issue in the construction industry. FGS Plant recognise the importance of good mental health within the workplace and have implemented a trained Mental Health First Aider to support our employees.

Lifting Certificates (Report of Thorough Examination of Lifting Equipment) are provided upon delivery of each machine which requires testing under LOLER. Our customers can be rest assured that all machines have been examined and tested for safe operation.

Plant safety has developed and improved over the years with a number of features now being available to reduce and prevent accidents. We are now fitting Safety Shield to our equipment fleet which is a camera-based collision avoidance system that aims to reduce the chance of a machine accident.

Some of our hire fleet machines have been fitted with Safety Shield’s external camera system and internal operator alert interface. Safety Shield is a camera-based collision avoidance system that aims to reduce the chance of a machine accident.

The system works by setting a safety radius around the machine. When someone or something is detected in the Safety Shield outer zone radius an alarm inside the machine sounds. When someone or something is detected in the Safety Shield inner zone radius an alarm inside the machine sounds with an audio message of “Pedestrian Detected” and the panel lights up. An alarm will sound when person has left the Safety Shield radius so you can continue work.

ISO 45001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system, with guidance for its use, to enable an organisation to proactively improve its OH&S performance in preventing injury and ill-health.
